Unlock phone restore need help

My brother had a original iphone which I unlocked and jailbroken with Ziphone like 4 months ago without any problems.
Well last night he told me it froze on him and he tried to restore it through Itunes ask me why
Now when I connected to Itunes it says its in recovery mode
Can somebody help me so I can make his phone work again on Tmobile
I heard there is 2.0 or 2.1 jailbroken version or something

just restore it using the restore button, and then follow:
this for mac
this for pc

The restore wants me to download the 2.1 software
Should I do that?
Can somebody else confirm this?

it is unlockable (on 1g iPhones) and jailbreakable

I tried the second time it worked followed every step everything worked but I cant call nobody it has 5 little tiny bars but no service
Sim car is fully working just tested on the other phone
So whats going on?
