Unlock Question

I am wanting to Unlock my 5s in order to get more money for it from gazelle. I tried yesterday by going through at&t and the email that was sent to me said my request was denied because I was under contract. Which I totally understand. My question is if i go to a at&t store and get a regular sim card and stick it in a temporary phone, will I then be able to unlock the 5s? Since the temporary phone will now hold my sim that is on contract. Just thought I would ask here before going to a at&t store
