ok. So apple no longer gets a cut from revenue from ATT.

So here's what should happen:

You walk into an Apple store or ATT store, pay 400 for the iPhone and you can stick any sim card into it, ATT, tmobile or anything with no issue. Now its up to you to decide, do you wanna guarantee ATT, you'll be with them for 2 years in return for 200 bucks. You sign a contract and get your money, your phone is still unlocked if you go abroad.

This is how it should be done!!

Apple will still get better kick-backs from not selling it sim free than totally unlocked, also they have exclusivity agreements, that they may not be regretting, but they can't do anything about them. We may see unlocked iPhones in 3/4 years, but until then think you're going to have to deal with it if you live in a country with an exclusive agreement.
