I'm about to get from someone and unactivated iPhone 5 from at&t and I have the IMEI number in case I need to unlock or something, but it says that it was never activated!

I don't have access to an at&t sim card, so will I be able to activate the phone with a different sim?

If you want to get passed the activation screen, you're going to need an AT&T SIM. However if you do get the phone unlock, do a restore from iTunes with the phone, as well having inserted the SIM of your choice. If the phone unlock successfully, you should get passed the activation screen.

So as long as I get it unlocked and it's unactivated because it asks for a sim card i'm good right?

And if for some reason it shows this http://imageshack.us/f/824/activateiphonewithoutss.jpg/ then i guess i'm screwed
