Heaven or Hell
I have a 3G iphone from the USA, and would like to
do some travelling with it. I would plan on buying local SIM
cards in the countries i am in....

Is it possible to Unlock the 3G iPhone at all and use foreign SIM Cards ??

thanks !

There are few programs in the web which can help you to unlock the iPhone. Most famously the PwnageTool, this is there website: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

Good luck

The baseband updated with the 2.2.1 firmware isnt compatible with yellowsnow (the iPhone 3G unlocking Software).

So either you must downgrade to 2.2 or use a modified version of the 2.2.1 ipsw which maintains the 2.2 baseband as-is without updating it!

Take care as you'll brick the phone if you dont follow this!

For hardware unlock you have turbosim.
