Unlocked 1st generation "No SIM"

I have a unlocked 2.2 1st generation iPhone that I've been using fine for about a month now. I used pwnage and couldn't have been happier until now... All of a sudden the phone doesn't recognize my sim card. I restart it and it will work again until a little while later and once again my sim won't be recognized. I'm using t-mobile and have read some other threads and some suggested that you needed to contact t-mobile and tell them you are using an iPhone on their network but I find that hard to believe..... Any help is appreciated
