Unlocked 2G (non-PwnageTool) giving me problems...

Sorry if this has been asked but I was given a previously unlocked 2G but I have no idea what tool was used to do the unlock -- I get all sorts of "Lost Network Connection" errors but for the most part everything works. I'd like to re-do the unlock using PwnageTool (which I know works great) but I was wondering if this would lead to any problems...

You can also use redsnow if you want.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of using redsn0w as opposed to using the original PwnageTool (aside from not having to restore custom firmware)... Have either proven to be more stable than the other?

I have nothing on the phone that I need, so restoring it won't be a problem -- if this is the case, isn't the safer route just going w/ PwnageTool?

I don't think it makes a difference. They're both stable tools released by the dev team. Go with whatever your comfortable with.
