I have an iPhone 3G given to me by a family member, to set up for my daughter. With the previous owner it was fully operational but with a different carrier than we use. The former iPhone owner wiped the phone before giving it to me.

At first it wouldn't operate after doing a factory restore because it was locked to the original carrier.

I spoke with our carrier who said the phone is compatible with their network and that the sim card presently in use by my daughter is compatible with this phone, and that it would run fine with their network. (They also said once it's on their network to give them a call if there's any issues and they would help with any set up issues if they need to be tweaked).

I'm not after any JB features - just to unlock.

So I proceeded with a JB and unlock. Appears correctly done from what I can see.

But the carrier is not showing up top left (it says searching ...)

Any suggestions what I've missed? Or is there a different unlock method available that doesn't require JB?
