What networks would someone be able to use on it? Would my friend be able to use his boost mobile on it, they are sprints prepaid for those that don't know

I honestly don't know if they still do the GSM/CDMA versions of phones anymore

And if so he has a galaxy s 3 or 4 with them so I would assume he would have to chop his sim up or get a new one for the iPhone

Yes it's compatible with Boost, here's the link to the LTE bands http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
The Galaxy S3 & S4 use micro sims, the iPhone uses a nano sim. So he would either have to cut his sim down or preferably get a nano sim to use in it.

My freind said boost doesn't have sims anymore, I don't see this being accurate (the apple page) that might be for a Verizon iPhone that's unlocked
