I originally purchased my unlocked iPhone 4 from Apple Online in Canada, and whenever I did a restore, iTunes showed the message "Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked," which is consistent with this Apple KB article:

Recently, I had some issues with it, and I stopped at Apple Store Square One near Toronto. The genius had some trouble getting the replacement phone unlocked, so the store ended up having to give me a brand new retail phone.

When I restore that phone in iTunes, I no longer see the unlocked message, but the iPhone seems to work with both my AT&T and Fido SIM cards. I'm pretty confident it's unlocked, since it works with SIM cards from 2 different carriers, but I'm a bit concerned for resale purposes that the buyer won't believe me that it's factory unlocked.

Does anyone else have an unlocked iPhone that doesn't display the confirmation message in iTunes? If so, was it purchased online or at a retail store?
