Hello there!

I'm living in the Middle East and looking to purchase an iPhone 5 that I can use in the UK, where I am relocating to permanently.

Not someone very technology-literate, I'm very confused by this whole A1428/A1429, GSM/CMDA business.

A friend of mine is selling his iPhone 5 (A1428), GSM

Pretty much all I'd like to know, is if I can purchase this phone and use it on a UK-based network.

Thanks in advance :)

I'm guessing so since this site lists the A1428 GSM iPhone as one of the ones you can buy in the UK

http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/specs.html

They list the specs for it, but the A1429 is the only model sold in the UK.

As noted above, the A1428 will work with any 2G or 3G network in the UK, but the A1429 is the only model that will work with LTE services from EE (now) and Three (from the end of the year).

No iPhone 5 model will ever work with LTE from any of the other networks.
