Unlocked iphone 5?

Hi, I am looking to buy the iPhone 5 out of contract, do you guys have any idea how much time apple takes to release these phones without contract? How long did they take for the 4S?

The 4S released in October and there were reports of unlocked phones being sold in some Apple stores shortly after like 4 days. However; I think Apple's actual plan was to sell them one month later in November.

Where do you live? Where I live (Ireland) they sell them unlocked the day it's released.

If you live in the states, buying the AT&T version outright will net you an unlocked phone as soon as you sync with iTunes. I am not sure if this is the case with other GSM carriers.

If you buy an AT&T iPhone off contract, full retail, it will be unlocked for you. I promise. People were reporting this same thing the very same day the iPhone 4S launched.

If you do a "device only" purchase from AT&T/Apple, it should not be locked. That's what I did back in October, and my phone was unlocked.
