unlocked iphone abroad Help!!

hey guys, new here but kinda have a problem! my girlfriend has a usa
iphone unlocked and is on vodafone uk. She has just gone to tenerife and here phone will not pick up signal.

Phone is turned on pops up tellling of usual provider now longer available, shows two other networks, orange and vodafone spain, she selects one however it never joins the selected network. I was wondering if anyone could shine some light on it??

Just pick up an Orange or Vodafone Spain sim card. It's possible she doesn't have roaming activated with her Vodafone UK sim. Depending on how long it is, just get a prepaid or pay as you go.
