Unlocked iPhone & new sim -- iTunes required?

I have a s/w unlocked iPhone 3GS on 4.0.1 (05.13.04 baseband). I plan on taking it to Europe w/ me and dropping in a prepaid sim when I get there -- probably T-Mobile (Germany) or Vodaphone (Germany). Will it be plug and play or will I have to plug the phone into iTunes? I planned on taking just my iPad so hopping iTunes activation isn't needed.

itunes isn't necessary. You may have to restart the phone, but that's in extreme cases. As long as you unlocked with ultrasnow, you'll be fine.
