Unlocked iPhone searching for signal... uh oh

I got this phone from my brother already jailbroken and unlocked so I don't know much about it. It has Cydia on it, and something called SAM prefs.

Last night I charged it, and when I woke up it said that Springboard had crashed and was running in Safe mode so I needed to restart it. I did. Now, it's searching for signal and I don't think it's going to find it.

When I plugged it back it, it said in iTunes that my SIM card isn't recognized. Does that mean I have to do everything over again?
 
You might, especially if you're software unlocked. You might want to ask your brother to be sure
You can try to un- and re-install ultrasnow, but I'm not sure if that'll do any good. TriJetHero's suggestion is also worth a try. Otherwise, you might have to re-do the jb.

Know what you're doing first, before blindly doing anything. If you screw it up, you may lock yourself out of an unlock. There are limitations on how much we can help, if you screw it up.
 
We need more info before giving you what to do.

Which phone do you have? 3G, 3GS or iPhone 4
Which firmware wersion and baseband on it.

For example, you might have an iPhone 4 and it has been jail broken (hence Cydia on the phone) but unlock by Gevey sim. When you reboot, you might have to go through the whole process to get it unlock again I.e dial 112 etc..

Anyway, we need more info from you though.
 
It is an iPhone 3GS on 5.0.1, firmware 06.15.00.

The part I find strange is that it is alerting me that I have voicemails.
 
There's a checkmark next to it in Cydia, so I assume it's already installed. Unless I need the one underneath it named exactly the same thing, or the next one that is called UltraSnowCN 1.6b5.

Try to remove and install the latest version of ultrasnow.
Also if that doesnt do it try flashing the iPad bb again with redsnow.
