Unlocked iPhone want to upgrade firmware but don't want to fry phone what do I do?

I just bought it off e-bay it's the first gen iPhone 8 gig. This was the info in the auction.



1st Generation 8GB iPhone with firmware v2.0.2 has been wiped and unlocked. Comes with Cydia and Installer and is currently functioning on wi-fi! Phone works great, we have just upgraded to the 3g model so we are selling this one. Sold AS IS.

The back is scuffed from normal use and has some wear from sliding into the case. Screen has a few scratches and specks but this does not effect function or viewability.

So what are the chances i'm going to fry it? What can I do?

Research more so you are not so clueless. Do some searching in these forums and read. A good place to start would be to read the FAQs and the stickies at the top of the forums. If you had already done this you wouldn't have needed to post your question.
