I am using a TMobile SIM card on an iPhone5 which was bought direct from Apple.

I am being told the SIM is not valid. I can not think of a reason this would be happening. TMobile is a supported carrier and the phone is unlocked.

Please help!

Sounds like the iphone is NOT unlocked then.
Go back where you bought the iphone and show them what its doing.
An unlocked iphone will never display sim not valid.

if it was indeed locked, wont it just prompt for the unlock code on the screen?

im wondering if there is a SIM issue.
