I found my old iPhone 4. The battery expanded and busted open the back of the case. After having the battery replaced, I ran into a second problem. Apparently many years ago, my kid must have found the phone and tried putting in the passcode incorrectly enough times to cause it to become disabled. It says to connect it to iTunes, but then iTunes says to input the code to unlock the phone, which you no longer can do.

I want to be able to access my old pictures of my kids. Is there a way to unlock the phone without the passcode? Failing that, is there a way to give myself more opportunities to try a passcode? All the solutions out there require you to wipe the iphone of data.

Unfortunately there's no way to get past the passcode without wiping all the data on the phone (DFU restore)..
