Hi, I am planning to unlocked my iPhone 3G to use abroad. I will receive my 4S this week and I would like to keep my old iPhone to make local calls while traveling especially in Brazil. So get a local carrier SIM card.

Does anybody know how is the best process to achieve that?
regards!

If your phone has 4.2.1 and never jailbreak, then I believe the baseband is 05.15. You can find out this info as follow;

Setting, General, About

Look at the modem firmware at the bottom and see what is it?

If it is 05.15, then it can't be unlocked with Ultrasn0w. However, you can find out if it can be downgradable by running Tiny Umbrella and see what bootloader you have on your phone. If you are lucky enough to have 05.08 bootloader, then you can downgrade your baseband to 05.13 and you can unlock it with Ultrasn0w. If your Iphone has bootloader higher than 05.08, then the only way to unlock it is to install Ipad baseband.

05.14.04 is your baseband (Modem firmware). Your firmware version is 4.2.1 which you indicate above.

Do you have PC or Mac? I can send you the tutorial on how to jailbreak it. From there you can install Fuzzyband from Cydia, run it and it will give you bootloader info.
