Unlocking iPhone 4

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I need a quick answer.

I bough my girlfriend and iPhone 4 with a smashed screen that I was going to repair from an online shop. To cut a long story short, the phone was broken in more ways that one so it was returned. The seller has no more on the required network but can offer me one on another network.....

I basically need to know if I can jailbreak and unlock an iPhone 4 running the latest software. Thing is i can't 100% say what baseband it will be running, however JB wizard says that none of the can be unlocked.

Is this correct, and if so is there another way round this?

Ehh... I wouldn't count on it since now that Apple stores in U.S sell Factory unlock iP4 now. Most people sold their locked, gevey sim, etc and put in some money and get a factory unlock one.

Okay no worries.
Just one last thing do the gevey sims work on all software versions....?
Some on ebay state they are only compatible up to 4.3.1
And when I upgrade to iOS5 will i need a new gevey sim?

I would suggest you to get the newest gevey sim which is "Gevey Ultra" something like that because it doesnt require you to do any steps. Ehh... rumors said that Gevey sim wont work on IOS5.
 
so far it is being reported the Gevey will not work on IOS 5 since it stopped working on IOS beta 5 version 2 on. nobody knows if that will change when the official version is released probably not. It would at least require a new updated Gevey sim to work if at all.

That pretty much settles it for me. With the release of iOS 5 coming, I don't want to be locked out of the phone after an update.
I think i'll wait around for another one on my network to come up for sale.

Definitely wait. You don't wanna screw around with Gevey.

Waiting never hurt anyone. :D

All firmwares upto now supports gevey :)
iOS 5 with preserved bb also supports gevey :)
