I've got an iPhone 4S which is locked to the O2 network in the UK. Looking on their website they sat they unlock contract iPhones for free. It does state to have the mobile number you purchased the phone with but not sure if it'd work with me as I didn't get that 4s when I renewed my contract?

I have an O2 contract, but the 4s was bought secondhand from the Preowned section at a Game store. Can I still get this iPhone unlocked for free, or will it cost me as I'm not the original owner?

I'm running iOS 7.04, model number A1387, so don't think its jailbreakable yet? I might try going into an O2 store and asking them, not sure they'd know as they tend to be more geared towards sales than tech stuff.

As long as your SIM card has been in the phone for 12 weeks or more you can unlock it providing your contract is in good standing!

Thanks for the link, have tried sending my details but got an email back saying they couldn't unlock it with the info supplied - sounds like it would need the original owners details to unlock the iPhone through O2 :(

Found out the problem was it was asking for a password I'd set for contacting customer services, which I thought I'd remembered but it was wrong.

However, I have managed to get it unlocked! Last night I clicked on the 'forgot password' link on the unlock page, entered my security details and resubmitted the form. This morning, I had an email confirming my iPhone is now unlocked, just needed to connect the phone to iTunes with my wife's Vodafone sim in it and it now appears to be unlocked!

Brilliant stuff, unlocked and didn't cost me anything either, very pleased. :D
