I've been trying to see how easy it is to get my iphone 5 unlocked, but I keep reading conflicting posts.

I don't know the history of the phone and I don't have the original SIM, but I was told it was on O2-UK

I want to know:

1. Can my iPhone 5 6.1.3 be unlocked?
2. Is there a free way? I had a local company quote me £95
3. Does it have to be JB-ed?
4. If it's possible to unlock it, will software updates lock it again?

Thanks for looking!

1.Yes

2. Not I konw of... Some compnay offers me $100 here in Canada

3. Nope... But somehow jailbreak allows you softwaew unlock the phone, but if you update the software it would lock again... Not entirely sure. This is why i said no in secnd one.

4. If you did factory unlock, it would be permanently unlocked.

1) Yes
2) No (only for Iphone 4 and 3gs on some special baseband)
3) No read #2
4) If you IMEI unlock or carrier unlock it's 100% forever unlock (until the phone dies)

Thanks for the replies, can you recommend a website to unlock this phone and how much roughly does it normally cost?

Yeah I saw that after I posted that... sorry about that.

Maybe their carrier might allow it? Always worth asking.

I have never read of a single instance where a carrier has unlocked another carrier's iPhone.

If that was common practice, it would create a war among the carriers since some who get unlocked "skip" on their contract.

O2 uk site is now doing for free so if you grab a pay and go sim register to that phone you can do for free

I'm locked to O2 as well. The unlock has just been made available today but it's a hefty £70.

You can check out the solution on O2's website by clicking on this link : http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI...ion,question=ref(User):str(Mobile),CASE=17424. But if you still want to get it unlocked, just go to iunlock.thesmarthacks.com and talk to them. You'll get a cheaper than 70gbp price for sure.

Hope that helps :)
