I think this was mentioned somewhere else.

It apparently is because you need the phones firmware to be working to be able to upgrade or reinstall it. And I think all Apple are saying that if you install there new firmware and it corrupts the firmware on the phone because of the unlock patch then you can't reinstall the firmware to get it working and apple wont do it for you because you invalidated the warranty by installing the unlock patch.

There is a guide to lock your phone again though which you can do before upgrading the firmware to make sure it works ok.

The current version of the reflash is rumored NOT to work well, or be erratic. The iPhone Dev team is working on an unlock restore, and promises something NEXT week. Wait for that is you are worried.
