My contract with ATT is expiring just as I head to Europe for two months. (Nice.) Does anyone know if I can unlock my iPhone and use a sim card from a European carrier while I'm there? I'll be in Italy for two weeks and Switzerland and France the rest of the time.

Depends on model and baseband
Since your contract is expiring, it must be a 3G or 3GS

As long as your baseband is 4.26.xx (Ultrasnow) or 5.11.xx (Blacksn0w) you are good. Must be jailbroken first.

If your baseband is 5.12.xx you cannot yet unless it's a 3G, you can try Fuzzyband from Cydia after you jailbreak.
