Unlocking issue iphone 5s

Hi there. I'm from a latin american country and iphone 5s is not in stock here yet. But i got this friend in the us who is coming and can bring the unlocked phone to me. Problem is that i dont know if i can activate it with the local network before it arrives here. i hope you guys can help me with this issue.

If it is the unlocked GSM version then you should be able to a activate it with any GSM nano sim card.
You need to check supported lte bands as they are different from country to country
