hey guys.
this is probably been asked over and over, but how do you unlock the iphone from at+t so i can use it in australia on telstra ? looking at getting one thats locked.
cheers

It all depends on the iphone model and the firmware version that its on.
Not all iphones can be unlocked and if its a 3G, 3GS or iphone 4 on the latest 4.1 iOS it cannot be done at the moment.
But its not as simple as asking how do you unlock it. You need to do some research and learn how and what jailbreaking does. Different tools used, firmware and baseband versions, cydia, shsh blobs, tinyumbrella and many other things that come into play. You cannot unlock an iphone unless you jailbreak it first. (Only exception to that is the original iphone 2G)

3G with 4.1 can be unlocked actually, but the rest are no go right now. Expect the 4 and 3GS unlock and jailbreak sometime towards the end of November though.

Why don't you just buy an unlocked iPhone? You save yourself the hassle and you never have to worry about losing your unlock because you installed an apple update.
You're relatively close to Hong Kong. They sell unlocked iPhones there.

Check your firmware version:

Settings -> General -> About

If your version is 4.0.1; go to jailbreakme.com to unlock

If your version is higher than 4.0.1 - you'll need to wait.

If you've successfully JB'd your phone, install ultrasn0w and you can unlock it.

thanks people.
i will purchase a new one and it wont be an issue.
it was a cheap 3gs i saw on ebay, and it is locked to at&t
and i use telstra in australia
cheers

Unless you buy an unlocked iphone, new iphone 4s come with 4.1. There is no jailbreak or software unlock available for that iOS.
