Good day all,

I'm doing a quick post here to help my friend out.

She is moving to South Korea next week to teach English for a couple years. She was able to get out of her contract with Sprint, but just received a new iPhone4 a few months back. She would rather keep said phone instead of buying something over there. How would she go about Unlocking/Jailbreaking her phone so she could use it with a Korea provider?

Thanks for your time.

First, jailbreaking and unlocking are two different things. You can be unlocked and not jailbroken or jailbroken and locked. One does not precede the other.

With the phone she wants to unlock, if she has service with Sprint and it's a Sprint phone. Call Sprint. Ask them to unlock the phone for international use.

She must.
1. Have been a customer for 90 days
2. Have had the bill paid on time and be current AND be a CURRENT Sprint customer

If she cannot meet 1 and 2, Sprint will not unlock the phone for her.

Note that there is NO commercial unlock whereby she can pay someone to unlock her phone. With Sprint it's not technically feasible.

If Sprint will not unlock her phone, there is no other route except the purchase of another phone.

Thank you guys. So what options does she have. Just buy a new phone when her's, though old, still new?

my mom's teaching english in korea and using her unlocked iPhone 5 that was from the states, factory unlocked via AT&T.

best bet is to buy one off craigslist in the states or korea (korea if you want to take advantage of the 4G/LTE/LTE-A speeds.
