My macbook pro has died and I want to move my address book date from user/library/addressbook from Time Machine backup to my partner's macbook. However all the files there are locked. Can someone tell me how to unlock them and make them accessible to her address book, p l e a s e!:rolleyes:

Can't you copy them?
Have you checked Finder > select file >> GET INFO >>> Sharing & Permissions yet?

did

thanks for that. I was just in the process of writing about that. I changed permission so that "everyone" has read only access., but it still says "you have no access."

Did you copy the file off the TM HDD into the proper Application Support folder or do you want to access it directly from the TM HDD?

I'd like to be able to open the user/library file so that I CAN copy or access the address book file within, but I can't even open the library file because it won't recognize my permission change.

----------

i did just now copy the library file, but it copied with the little - sign on it and still says I don't have permission to open it.

most of the folders in my TM user folder have that little red circle with a white minus sign that doesn't go away even when I change permissions to everyone can read. (sorry, I'm going to sleep now as it's 1 am in Australia. I'm hoping to find some answer to this in the morning!:):)

I'm continuing to try to solve this problem. Have been able to unlock files in my TM backup folders under user/library/application support but when I move the address book folder into the same place on my partner's drive, even though the information on the moved file shows 14 MB and over 1000 items, nothing is showing up when I open address book application again. I've moved the file from different backups, but always the same thing. no contacts are listed. Anyone have any ideas?
