what would cause a hard drive to become "unmounted"? i was doing some video work on my G5 and decided to restart it and when it came back up my secong hard drive was missing. I opened disk utility and noticed it(the second hard drive) needed to be repaired. so i did so and re-mounted it. Does a hard drive automatically un-mount when it needs repair or was it some other problem..the hard drive needing repair is a whole other issue i suppose..:(

Normally internal drives don't unmount themselves. If it's unmounted it's usually a problem. You should back up data, and do repair disk.

I would backup all data, verify data on new disk, and zero out the offending disk.
