Hi!

I have an external hard drive - 500gb I think. I stored some DVD's on it via my powerbook & it was formatted for mac extended journaled I think.

I'm connecting it to my new Macbook [ powerbook had a nasty fall ] and the external comes up as unformatted......

Tried on another powerbook & a PC *spits* also. I feel the change of machine is deffo a red herring.

My question is..... what utility might be best to mount the disk and attempt to reconstruct/repair the directories? I've tried a TechTools product but don't see how to mount an 'unseen' drive. I know when i was playing with utilities years ago, you could mount just about anything and interrogate disks bit by bit....

Thoughts please? I'm assuming that reformatting will just erase the directories and make the data impossible to link together?

I've always had success with DiskWarrior. I think they have finally released a Leopard compatible version. It's not cheap but what's your data worth to you?
