Unresponsive Jb iphone

A buddy of mine came by today because his iphone has seized up and he couldn't get it to restart. Its a 3gs that I believe is somewhere in the 3.0 area that has been jailbroken and running on tmobile. The phone is completely unresponsive, it stays on the apple logo, occasionally flashes white, and then goes right back to the apple logo. It will not go into dfu mode and is completely unrecognized by my pc. I have tried the holding both buttons for ten seconds all that as well as forcing into dfu through usb methods but like I said the computer wont recognize the phone at all. Any ideas? The owner is not electronic savy whatsoever and was just listening to music riding his bike when it shutdown so I dont suspect any misguided tinkering as the issue.
 
I'll keep trying but I saw that link a few hours back in my endless search and I've done that with a stopwatch about 75 times.
