I am not eligible for the new iPhone upgrade until Feb next year and may end up buying unsubsidized.

Does anyone know if the new iPhone can be bought unsubsidized on launch day? When was the iPhone 3GS available to be bought unsubsidized and was it $599/$699 or $699/$799?

I vaguely recall that Apple didn't allow you to buy iPhones at unsubsidized prices during the first couple weeks that it was released. I don't remember how long that was before Apple lifted it.

That would be nice. Anyway, it drives me mad how some countries in Europe get it a usually a month or a few months later. So unfair.

I bought my iPhone 3G unlocked in Europe and I will be replacing it with the unlocked version of iPhone HD (or whatever they'll call it). I am also hoping that it is available whenever the new iPhone is announced.

Cancelling the original contract and buying into a new one is the cheaper option. Unless of course your whole motive was to get out of a contract altogether.

Years ago, it always bothered me that European countries got sweet cellphones 3-6 months before they were ever offered in the U.S (if it all).

I guess the tables have turned for the better :p
