unusable external hard drive

I have a 250GB SimpleTech external hard drive. However, I am unable to add or remove items to or from the hard drive. Whenever I drag files into the hard drive, it has the circle with a diagonal line in it and says "The item "_____" could no be moved because "SimpleDrive" cannot be modified. I have used this hard drive before but on Windows.
*Note* I DO NOT have the installer disc for the hard drive anymore.

Can someone help me make my hard drive usable?

UPDATE: When I looked at the SimpleDrive Info, it says Format: Windows NT File System (NTFS). Also, under Sharing & Permissions, it says "You can only read"

OS X can read NTFS but it cannot write to it,go into disk utility & format it HFS+ ( Mac extended (journaled) ). This will probably erase it contents so i would back up first
