Hi all.
I've been a long time user of an 80gb gen 6 classic to hold all my music in one place and connected to my HiFi, although I also use a nano and my iPhone for on the go music consumption.
A year ago I picked up a very cheap 160gb gen 7 unit and took it to an apple authorised dealer and used it to purchase an out of warranty replacement (paying the out of warranty fee).
This was an insurance policy against my 80gb unit eventually dying.
I've successfully replaced the battery in the 80gb unit and the hard drive test shows it's still good. I've also picked up a couple of cheap 80gb and 120gb units so I don't know that I really need the 160gb refurb unit.
It's remained in the packaging and I have the receipt (three month warranty expired now), which might make it desirable on eBay. I noticed prices going nuts after the discontinuation was announced, but I wonder if prices have moderated?
My question then is would you hold it, or cash out? Are prices growing or declining for unused (Apple refurb) examples?
