Been on OS 12.something and happy as can be with iPhone X.

Could not download Fitbit app unless I upgraded, so was kinda forced to
get 16.2

Phone battery is at maximum capacity and peak performance capability.

Don't have any widgets activated. Only app that is active in the background
is Fitbit which also has background app refresh activated.

I don't watch video at all (no youtube, movies etc)...only occasional wifi
audio chats via FaceTime and WhatsApp and perhaps playing a short twitter
video.

Battery depletes really fast....previously I would get a good days performance
and only need to recharge once at night. Now Im down to 20% at about 5pm or so.

Been a week since updating so all indexing should be complete by now.
Anyone facing similar problems, and can a future update be expected
that would address this battery drain?

Can you enable the icon for location services to always be present when in use? I am going to bet that your phone is using location services a lot more than before. I had the same issue on my 14 Pro. Turns out it was Find My checking location almost constantly. Unfortunately, the only "Fix" I found was disabling Find My until Apple roles out a patch.

Location services is set to 'on' but individually turned off for 99% of apps.
Fitbit needs to be on (set to "only while using app")...realised my Fitbit app is running all day, will
try to turn it off when Im not using the tracker.

Cant turn off "Find my iPhone"...it did get me out of a jam few days ago.

But thanks for the tip on location....I think the Fitbit app was possibly
draining a lot of battery by checking on location every few minutes.
Let's see

Would you try 16.3 beta?

Have you checked battery usage under settings? That should tell you what app is drawing the most or unusual battery power from your phone.

Well, this is the eternal story: iOS updates severely impact battery life. No wonder it’s worse on iOS 16 when compared to iOS 12, it was always going to be worse. Tweak some settings to try to make it a little better, but it will always be abhorrent when compared to iOS 12, and unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do.

The FitBit app running continuously on the background is a sure-fire cause, but a couple of things:

-You updated for that, so not using it is not an option, I presume

-With the exact same usage and settings, iOS 16 will be a lot worse than iOS 12. How much? That I cannot tell you, but it will be worse.

Its weird....I tweaked the Fitbit app settings and have kept it turned off,
only activate it when I need to sync once a day. Also cut the app's bluetooth connection
till I need it.

Battery drain has slowed considerably.

Turning on the battery setting I now see that the apps using most battery are
whatsapp, safari, and FaceTime....and I am not even using them when I checked.

Just saw a drop from 84% to 77% in a flash....hope this is something a future update can fix.

May I ask what is a battery life % of your device? Big drops sounds like weared battery with +- 80%.

Settings > Battery > Battery Health > check here Maximum Capacity

This can also cause a problems - my 11Pro has 81% for few months and sometimes drops few % at same time. I will replace it soon.

About the topic - iOS 16 is smooth but for sure does more operations in background, as already stated - that’s how each new OS works.

My 11 Pro had way batter battery life before but I have to live with it.

Max capacity is 100%
