Does anyone else have this?
If I stay on the login window for a while, my mac won’t let me click on my username, or if I do get stuck in an infinite circular spiral until I force shut-down the computer.

If I log in right away, I can log in.

Running OS X El Cap;
Filevault Off

You might want to try changing your Energy Saver settings to get around this.
IE, set "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" to not ticked.
Bluetooth, USB and other problem areas when waking from sleep are a recurring theme, it seems, in OS X. This might be true for you, as well.

System Preferences -> Energy Saver
