So, I know that this question has probably never been asked. I want to know if there is a way (through a software combination of preferences setting) to turn off your display (such as turn the brightness all the way down) WHILE the macbook's lid is down. Basically, I want to know if I can stop my Mac from falling asleep AND turn off my display while the lid is down.

So... this is what would happen

- you lift up the lid of the Macbook, which appears to be sleeping or off
- you turn up the brightness, and the Macbook is on

Just turning off a password request after your Mac falls asleep won't do, either.

Click Spotlight

Type "Hot Corner"

Set according to your preference.

Try it out.

Profit.

Or Refund...

Edit: Try using Control + Corner or Command + Corner if you frequently activate it by mistake.

I'm surprised I knew this... When I first got my MB I had to ring Apple to find out out to copy & paste! Oh my I was dumb.

After looking around a little, I found a solution. I just want other people to see it.

You could download a program called insomniax, then turn your brightness all the way down.

Voila!

Voila!

The brightness buttons on my macbook already dull it down until it's off

Searching here on MacRumors also yielded this: control-shift-eject (sleep all displays)
