Hello,
I'm having a very peculiar sound problem with my mid-2010 macbook. I can't get sound in iTunes, firefox (for example, if trying to play a video on youtube or some suchlike), VLC or the included DVD player. However, if I open an .mp3 in QuickTime, I can hear it.
I don't have airplay.
I've reset the SMC and the NVRAM to no avail.
I've even re-installed OSX.
I've checked the sound preferences, which are set to the built-in speakers (no other option available) with the audio port set for Sound Output.
I've checked the midi setup output which is set with internal speakers as the source, format is 44100.0 Hz, 2ch-24bit integer. The master is just a shade shy of being completely to the left, however it is greyed out and not adjustable. The other volume's 1 and 2 are pretty far right, though not entirely (value: 0.756, dB: -7.5 for both).
Furthermore, I get all the system sounds: startup, trash crumpling, volume going high/low, various alerts and so on.
It's the same story with or without headphones, but for the record, when I do insert headphones, the sound preferences recognize it and change from "internal speakers" to "headphones" so that isn't a part of the problem.
Does anybody have any idea what is going on or any suggestions as to what I could do about it (short of taking it in)?
I'm running 10.8.4 on a macbook that's 2.4 GHz, intel core duo with 8GB memory, and 320GB total capacity.
Thanks for checking out my post.
