I just upgraded from a four-year old PowerMac to a 17" MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and I'm learning to cope with many new things, especially the more complicated trackpad. One thing I find difficult to deal with are the constant pop-up boxes that seem to open on random clicks in almost almost every application with options such as "Open," "Move to Trash," and "Make Alias" or "New Folder," "Get Info," "Change Desktop Background." Is there anything I can do to disable these constant pop-ups?

Yes, stop clicking with two fingers. You're right clicking when you do that.

Or disable the two finger right click in the mouse preference pane.

The trackpad, while more complicated, is extremely powerful and efficient once you get to use it. You'll have to be more careful about your finger placement, but believe you me, it's pretty amazing.
