If you mean a slowing down of iphone sales fron the announcment of the iphone event to the released day (9/21) then yes it will hurt apple because everyone will stop buying the 4s and just wait for the 5 but once its released apple will go right back to making all that $$$
Nope -- a friend on another forum just bought an iPhone -- her first smartphone -- because she needed a new phone immediately, and because she was unable to hold off another month or so for the next-gen iPhone. She was well aware of the timing but went ahead anyway because she needed a phone NOW. She's very happy with her new iPhone 4S and that's all that matters, eh?
Yes. Many people are holding out and planning their next phone purchase based on what the announcement is going to be. Many people have already said that if they don't like it, they will split.

And if she's lucky, she might be able to convince the people where she bought her iPhone from to upgrade her to the next iPhone. Assuming she upgraded, she might fall into her carrier's "buyer's remorse" program and return the iPhone she just bought for the new one. Although, there may be a restocking fee.
I hunk when people see there is no 4.7 super mega retina screen with holograms. Keyboard everyone will get a Galaxy 3 because it can do picture in picture and has more features and a bigger screen than Apple. People will move away from Apple and sales will dwindle. Android will be the new best phone because people like to choose anything other than apple. The king has been dethroned and the company will fade away while google and Samsung will reign forever.

I think that is a really cool novelty feature, but when do you really think you will use it? You cannot multi-task with the PIP b.c it takes up too much of the screen and sits in the foreground....unless there is a way to make it sit in the background and only sit on top when clicking it.
I think that since iP4 users who are on a 2-year contract are waiting to upgrade, then Apple will probably have had a hit on iPhone sales the second half of this year. However, I don't think Amazon's, Moto/Google's and Microsoft's announcements in the first weeks of September are going to hurt Apple in the long run. The iP5 will steal all the press.

The only area why will "hurt" is Apple's back; because of all the money they will bring back.
But sirious: when they can deliver enough quantities and quality after the launch they will have some brilliant month in front of them. No way it will hurt them.
Judging by posts in other threads, definitely the former. As for the latter... I shall not comment.
