I'm thinking of upgrading my wife's phone to the newest ios. Smart move or not? Would it work ok with the new ios? Thanks in advance.

The newest iOS for the iPhone 3G is 4.2.1. While it is not as fast as 3.1.3, it is much better then 4.0 and 4.1.

4.0 and subsequent updates ruins the 3g. Most people (that would be on MR) still using it revert back to 3.1.3

I was hoping to get some of the features of ios 5. I may just wait for an updated iphone for one of us. She could care less but I think she's due for an upgrade. Thanks everyone.

I've actually had a pretty good experience with 4.2.1. Once it's trimmed up and optimized, I can get a month of standby life on it. Remembering the fact that it does have 1st generation hardware inside, it can still handle iOS 4.2.1 well.
