Actually, 10.6.6 can access the Mac App Store. You need 10.6.8 to access the App Store and then to download Mountain Lion. But hold on, make sure your computer can run it! I didn't save the link, but I'm sure it won't take too much poking around at apple.com to find the table showing which models will run it.
Supported Models
- iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
- MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
- MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
- Xserve (Early 2009)
- MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
- Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
- Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)

Thanks for correcting that. I'm only going off what I've read, and I'm quite sure I've seen it as 10.6.8 multiple times and that this is the first time I've read that 10.6.6 had the App Store. I have every confidence in your knowledge, but I wonder why all those other posts were wrong. ??? I did think it was odd that the last update to SL was the first one with access. It would make even more sense if it had been when SL was introduced. That just seems like a pretty big deal to launch that late in an OS "line".
I think most people quote 10.6.8 because that's the most current SL version. But the MAS was introduced via the 10.6.6 update. Thanks for correcting that. The Mac OS X v10.6.6 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and includes the Mac App Store, the best way to discover and buy new apps for your Mac.
