I know it's been done to death, but I can post some pics if you would like to see them.

I will be installing my intel x-25 ssd in it before even booting it.

It is going back not because of the dead pixel but because the unit had some bad spotlighting with the backlight.

Needless to say Apple will not cross ship. I had to order a whole new one and will continue to use it until new one arrives.

When I get the new one I will send the other one back for RMA

I ordered it last thursday, and it is scheduled for delivery today.

So not too shabby. 3 business days not counting the weekend. It should be here by 10:30 PST.

Yes it has already arrived.

I will upload some pics in a few. I just got done installing my intel x-25m and am re-installing the OS as we speak.

It does seem really fast installing. But then again SSDs are fast.

So far everything looks good. Have to say I am pleased othe than the fingerprints on the screen.

There is one dead pixel. You think it is worth sending it back for that?

It is kind of in the center of the screen. What should I do?

If it's right in the center of the display, probably I'd send it back. But it's totally up to you.

Massage that pixel a bit and see what happens.....Search the forums here for more info...

China

I tried. Glass makes that difficult.

It does not really bother me so I may keep it.

Seeing that this thing will be hooked up to my ACD 24 99 % of the time I really don't think I care that much.

It really is a nice machine otherwise. Alot larger than I thought.

Not that much heavier though. I may post some pics in a few.

I guess the deciding factor will be the light bleed test. I will have to do that tonight when I'm in a darker room.

Here are some photos

Yeah, always turn it on and inspect before installing RAM or a harddrive.

And send it back, the dead pixel will ruin your life. It will be all you see when you look at the screen. All you think about when you use your computer. Definitely send it back.

Also, just out of curiosity... why did you get the 17" MBP if you're going to have it plugged into your 24" ACD 99% of the time? The 15" can come with a 2.93Ghz processor and the same video card. The ACD offers no resolution advantage over your 17" ... I just don't see the point of getting the big expensive one.

It's not like you need the 8 hour battery life, it will be plugged in 99% of the time. It's not like you need the extra resolution, you're gunna have an external monitor 99% of the time.

Thanks for the blurry pics ;)

But I want!

Regarding the dead pixel, try one of the various pixel checker apps out there.

You can usually force it to cycle rapidly through the various colors, and you can isolate a small area too, and if it is a stuck pixel, and not a dead one, it might just un-stick it!

G/L with that.

Otherwise, very nice purchase. you should be happy for quite some time with that laptop :)

I am running the pixel fixer widget. It doesn't do much.

Anyway the pixel is barely noticeable and only can be seen on a white background.

I doubt it is going to bother me as much as the poster above says.

I really don't think that is worth my effort getting it replaced over one dead pixel (Calling Apple, - They may give me the line that one dead pixel is acceptable and that they will want me to bring it to a genius (which is even more time).

It really does not bother me the slightest and if it does, I wil give them a call.

As for the blurry photos. You guessed it crappy iphone camera was all I had at the time.

I want the extra resolution for the times that I will be using it away from home (airplane for instance - that battery really does help there) or times when I bring it over to a friends, etc.

I surely will not be lugging it around with me every day though. I have a smaller macbook for that. Or I can use a dell mini in a pinch.

how much does it bother you? if you can live with it keep it. me personally i think that it should be perfect and would send it back.

I agree, I would cringe every time I see the stuck pixel and especially of how this $3000 machine has this flaw right smack in the middle and permanently imbedded on my gorgeous screen!

But if you can live with it and everyone is different just keep it.

The fingerprints were on the outside of the screen.

Really you guys are more OCD than I am.

I thought about it and it seems that everything else is perfect.

I may not get one this good next time around or may get one with even more problems.

It's like I said before, I think I can live with the one dead pixel.

Everything else is great.

Hey I'm curious if you set your brightness level to 1-3 notches does the backlight slightly flicker?

I don't notice any flicker at that brightness level

It remains constant.

what week is your mbp?

week number is in your serial number: "4th-5th digit of serial number"

example: w8914 = week 14

noticed your mbp fans aren't maglev - are they noisy?

I'm with him, if 99% of the time its going to be plugged into the ACD might as well get the more powerful and expandable Mac Pro desktops.
