Hello everyone,

I am sure you knowledgable folks can give me the answers I am looking for or point me in the right direction. I apologise if this question has been asked before. I have done a site search and browsed the forum (on my iPhone) and haven't had any luck.

I have an iPhone 4 that I want to update from 4.3.3 to 5.1.1. I don't want it to install iOS 6.

I have downloaded the iPhone 4 gsm 5.1.1 ipsw from osxdaily dot com and began the OS upgrade by directing iTunes to the ipsw file I downloaded. I performed the backup but didn't go any further when iTunes wanted to connect to the Apple servers.

To get to the point, is iOS 5.1.1 still being signed by apple for the iPhone 4 and will it be okay to allow iTunes to continue with the update? If not, if it is still possible, how do I go about updating the iPhone?

Thankyou

[EDIT] I have just realised my question might have been better served in the iOS forum. Sorry.

Anyways, for those that have stumbled here I have found the answers to my questions over at the Dev-Teams blog site. The same questions are being updated repeatedly so I will echo the general response here.

Apple has stopped signing iOS 5.1.1:
This means that devices that have not had their SHSH blobs saved or not been previously jail broken and saved by Cydia are out of luck. iOS 6 is the only update option to them now and wait for any future jailbreak.
