update jailbreak without losing apps

Unfortunately, there isn't a way, however, there is a way to make it easier:
Download PKG backup from Cydia and it will make a list of all your jailbreak apps. When you re-jailbreak, download it again and it will recover and automatically download it all for you*
Caveat: it doesn't work with custom repos (like if you use cracked apps etc) so so you should make a list of that manually so you an reinstall. SHouldn't be too much
