Update now or later.. phone is going to be reset

My husband will be using my iPhone 5 when I get the new phone. Question. Do I update my iphone 5 now to IOS 8 or is it a waste of time? In other words, when I reset the phone for him, will the phone revert back to IOS 7 or will it maintain the upgrade and he starts out with IOS 8?

If you update to iOS 8 and restore, it will remain as iOS 8

When you reset phone it clears the data. If you restore it, it will use whatever the ios version available at that time. I had no problems with iOS 8 on my iP5 so it wouldn't do any harm updating it to iOS 8 now.
