should I update my iPhone 7 to 10.3 over the air or iTunes? Is there any difference. I was reading online yesterday that you get more things if you update on iTunes. Any truth to that? Thanks guys.

No difference between those two. Could you share that interesting read ....:)

If I can find it I will.

I also saw where it said I need to back my device up. Do I really need to do that just to update it? It said its cause apple used a new way to update them.

I don't get it. Hmmmmm, maybe because of a new file system....but still, there should be no difference and no need for backup.

I've never done an iCloud restore. Does it do an encrypted backup like iTunes? Makes a big difference because it restores all passwords and settings.

I prefer iTunes update because of the encrypted backup feature. Makes me feel better just in case something goes wrong. Probably makes no difference but that's my irrational justification.

Backup your device just to be on the safe side, which is something that applies to any upgrade or even in general. And then update whichever way you want either OTA or iTunes.

No that isn't true. But I highly recommend from an IT standpoint to update via iTunes. You will have a better chance of not catching software bugs. This happens often.

It probably makes no difference these days, but I have a habit of installing major releases (which this one counted because of the new file system) using iTunes because you get a clean install of the OS rather than patching the existing install.
