Just ran an update to 11.6.3 on a MBP (Intel) and it's hanging while running something called com.apple.MobilSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService. After this process jumped to using 200% of CPU and the fans went into Mach 1 speed I killed the process and tried again, this time booting into Safe mode first. I'm now sitting here watching the process repeat itself. What the heck is this thing? Is there a magic incantation to make this work?
UPDATE: After 30+ minutes the ordeal is over. This process finally stopped spinning the fans, and after four cycles through the white-Apple+progress-bar display it finished. Is Apple trying to discourage us from owning more than one or two machines? These minor upgrades are becoming a real time-consumer. I can't compare this to the length of time this sort of thing takes on Windows 11 (no experience with that), but comparing to macOS back when it was just OS X these update times are really annoying. And I REALLY hope that my MBA's "BrainService" has been updated!
