Hello!

My wife and I both have 3GS. Mine is jailbroken and unlocked with 4.3.3, 6.15.00. My wife's is not jailbroken and is on 4.2.1, 5.15.04. I have tried to update her phone to 4.3.3, but I get the 3194 error.

As I read around, I seem to get conflicting solutions for this. They also seem to be geared towards people who are trying to downgrade their OS.

Does the problem with my wife's phone exist because another phone (mine) is on another baseband? Because it's jailbroken? Will I have to use another CPU, or is there a fix?

Thanks!

Try another computer first, but if that doesn't work,

If her phone is still usable, try backing it up with iTunes and then putting the phone in DFU mode and restoring to 4.3.3 and then afterward restoring from the backup.

Your iPhone should not affect the way hers behaves. But iTunes is funny sometimes and all it may take is another computer to do the job.

I have already backed it up...I'll give DFU a shot.

Before that...maybe I'll add this: I ultimately want to jailbreak and unlock my wife's phone, and only want to update to 4.3.3 first because it seems to me that there isn't an untethered jailbreak/unlock for 4.2.1. Am I right, or did I miss something?

Thanks again,
Angelo

There is a 4.2.1 untethered with Redsn0w. :)

All firmwares till now are untethered :) so don worry

That is great news! I couldn't find any instructions online. There were untethered jailbreaks, but all of the unlocks gave the caveat that I would then be tethered.

Sorry that this thread is turning into something other than the original topic...if anybody could post a link for me to the untethered jailbreak and unlock for 4.2.1 3GS, it would be greatly appreciated. I have looked and looked.

It is also possible that I'm greatly misunderstanding something...if I do an untethered jailbreak with greenpois0n, then update the baseband with redsn0w, and then install sn0wbreeze, will it remain untethered?

Again, sorry for the topic change.

I am currently using Redsn0w 0.9.6RC17 and I believe it will do 4.2.1 untethered. Also, install the iPad baseband for the unlock. Run Ultrasn0w from Cydia. You'll be completely untethered. :)

You don't need sn0wbreeze at all. Sn0wbreeze is a Windows tool used for creating custom IPSW files.

Maybe you mean Ultrasn0w? ;)

Ok, I'll give it a shot now and let you know how it works.

I did it and now Cydia is a white icon and crashes at startup.

From what I read, this means I'm tethered.
