How do I update the Samsung 470 SSD's Firmware on the mac operating system?

I do not own any Windows PCs nor do I know anyone who does.

Torrent a copy of Windows 7 and Boot Camp it just for the update?

This should be legal because Microsoft lets you use Windows 7 without product key for 30 days. After 30 days you're expected to stop using it, or let Windows 7 guide you to somewhere on Microsoft's site to purchase a key.

torrent away :)

Lol. I don't think it quite works like that.

Is it ok to walk into a food market and eat an apple while you shop? If you pay for it, sure, many people do.

Is it ok to walk into a food market, make an entire sandwich, open plates, and have a picknick in the furniture section on a table? If you plan on buying all of it?

No.

Crappy analogy but you get my point.

Apples to oranges, here. M$ does let you use for 30 days without a key, it's not the same as eating something at a grocery store. All he needs is 30 minutes to update his firmware.

Hijacking a car for a test drive when going to the dealership and simply asking to test drive it yourself?

How's that for a proper analogy?

Yes they let you do it for free but how about you do that, purposely get caught, and try explaining that to a judge and jury.

Don't purposely get caught.

OP, you could just not update your drivers if you want to be an angel of anti-"piracy"

Is it unfortunate that there isn't another way to update it, yes. Being too cheap to pay for something doesn't make stealing it any better though, it's only $100, and honestly a pretty good OS(or at least Ultimate x64 is, idk about the $100 version)

I'm pretty sure it's cheaper than that with a student discount.

Do you have a friend with a Windows PC?

All you need to do is install the software and create a bootable flash drive with the firmware, then uninstall; the actual update does not occur in Windows.

(or have him/her set a restore point, install the software/create bootable USB, then go back to the restore point)
